First Lutheran Church Endowment Fund

"Because God first gave to us, we give."

The people of First Lutheran have always had a special vision for serving the community and the world. God has blessed our congregation with talents, gifts, dedication and caring. For this we are truly thankful! We take seriously our stewardship responsibility and the use of these and other gifts both for the present and for future generations.

The First Lutheran Endowment Fund provides a unique and lasting stewardship vehicle for people to express gratitude to God for the blessings they have received.

Many Ways to Give to the Endowment Fund

The First Lutheran Church Endowment Fund is a separate fund established by a special resolution adopted by the congregation on December 13, 1987.

The Endowment Fund:

  • Receives gifts of cash, securities, life insurance, real estate, etc.
  • Oversees the administration and investment of such funds as an endowment in perpetuity.
  • Distributes the income for religious, educational and charitable purposes.

Thus, the Fund enhances the ministries of First Lutheran Church.

The benefits of the Fund's income are many and are used to extend the life and the mission of God's church. Distributions of income are used for scholarships or grants, community outreach, mission development and other ministries. Examples include seminary, college and camp scholarships; social service, ELCA agencies and special program grants; and religious leadership, educational ministries and world mission funding. The Fund's income cannot be used for any purpose normally covered by the congregation's regular operating budget.

A Board of five directors manages the activities of the Fund. All are elected by the congregation and meet at least quarterly to formulate policy, manage assets and disburse income. Current members of the Board are Linda Bogenreif, Steve Dickey, Al Williams, Peggy King and Jon Peppmuller.

There are many ways to give to the Fund. For most people, cash is the simplest and easiest gift. Just write a check and send it to First Lutheran Church, Endowment Fund, 1551 S. 70th Street, Lincoln, NE 68506. Other ways to give include:

  • Stocks, bonds or mutual funds
  • Real estate
  • Beneficiary of life insurance policy
  • A bequest in your will
  • Trust
  • Gift annuity
  • Memorials or gifting in honor of someone

The Directors encourage you to consult with your attorney, accountant or other financial advisor prior to choosing your method of giving.
