Our Baptismal and Affirmation of Baptism promises give clear direction to our servie of others. Jesus says, "Come, follow me!" It is an invitation too good to ignore, but it is more than that. It is a command. Following Jesus means feeding the hungry, providing for the homeless, caring for the sick, teaching the children, sharing the Good News, welcoming the stranger, advocating for others and working for peace and justice.

We have been active partners with many different community organizations to serve on-going and short term needs and serving as advocates. First Lutheran has been involved in work that resulted in anti-bullying legislation for Nebraska’s schools, advocated for the incarcerated, worked to alleviate global hunger through the ELCA Advocacy office (Visit http://www.elca.org/Our-Faith-In-Action/Justice/Advocacy/Issues.aspx), been a sponsor for the annual Hiroshima-Nagasaki Lantern Float in Lincoln and we are active with the Lincoln Interfaith Peacemaking Coalition.

First Lutheran's Serving Ministries have consistently challenged, equipped and encouraged people to reach out to the community and beyond. We encourage you to explore all the opportunities, both ongoing and short term, globally, locally and within the congregation, and prayerfully consider where you can best share your God-given gifts.
