What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one Christian caring relationship for anyone who is going through a rough patch, pain, or struggle in life. One of the key pieces to this ministry is that it's not a ministry of giving answers, rather it's a ministry of listening with care, asking reflective questions, and "holding space" for someone else.
"Holding space" means we are willing to accompany, walk alongside a person in whatever journey they are on without judging them, making them feel inadequate or trying to "fix" them. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, and offer support, trying to reflect God who does these things for us through love. Wherever you go today, think about who may need space held for them and it may be you who needs someone to hold space.
If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, you would receive the training and supervision necessary to provide one-on-one Christian and confidential care to people in and outside our congregation. Training includes working on listening skills, role playing, more listening skills, prayer and more. After 50 hours of training, you would be assigned a Care Receiver with whom you would meet with once a week for about one hour.
