What does it mean to be a Good Neighbor?
During last Wednesday evening’s Holden Evening Prayer, three First Lutheran members shared their personal experiences accompanying Afghan refugee families right here in Lincoln. In this video, they speak honestly about the blessings, the challenges and lessons, and the relationships formed through this ministry.
Lives have been changed — including their own.
Now, we have another opportunity.
A new Afghan family — a husband, wife and 10 children (from a baby to 18 years old) — has recently moved to Lincoln to be closer to relatives and friends. While they have some support from the Afghan community, they are hoping for an American sponsor (or small team) to walk alongside them.
Support might include:
- Helping with medical and dental appointments
- Providing occasional rides
- Assisting with mail and paperworkOffering friendship and encouragement
You don’t have to do it alone. This team of three would be happy to share what they’ve learned and help you get connected. If you feel a nudge to be part of this Good Neighbor ministry, reach out to them or call the church office and we’ll get you connected.
This Lent, we are exploring what it means to love our neighbor. Here is a meaningful, tangible way to live it.
