First Lutheran is delighted to welcome Pastor Bekah Davis as a guest preacher and speaker on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. Pastor Bekah currently serves with Saint Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) in Cairo, Egypt, and will be sharing her unique insights and experiences at both our weekend worship services – June 28 (5:00 PM) and June 29 9:30 AM) and the Adult Forum, which begins at 10:40 AM on Sunday.
Saint Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) is a ministry supported in part by the ELCA and has been a lifeline for displaced people in Cairo since 1979. Founded by Saint Andrew’s United Church in Cairo, StARS provides vital support across education, psychosocial services, legal aid and community outreach. Their mission emphasizes justice, dignity and enhancing the quality of life for refugees and vulnerable migrants from regions such as Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
Guided by a vision of building safe, just and inclusive communities, StARS works for refugees and with refugees, empowering them to take the lead in creating solutions for their communities. This is a rare opportunity to learn from someone immersed in this powerful mission.
