Status of In-Person Worship

By November 5, 2020News

by Pastor Stephen Griffith

Our COVID Crisis Task Force continues to gather information from the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department and the congregation in order to make a responsible decision about whether to resume in-person worship services. In addition, I have participated in conversations and meetings with other clergy, Mayor Gaylor Baird and Health Department Director Lopez to share information and concerns. The number of cases has been increasing and remains at an alarmingly high level. The Health Department urges extreme caution.
Members of First Lutheran have shared thoughts and concerns with me and with the Church Council. Some have supported the idea of
reopening. Others have expressed concern that it is too risky to consider at this time. Although I had hoped, or perhaps wished, that we
might be ready to try in-person services on a limited scale, I have asked the Task Force to review the situation, and make a recommendation to the Executive Committee. I will share information with you as the Council decides what direction we should go. I am always open to hearing your comments.
