A Day Off Well Spent: Learning, Light and Life Lessons

How did some of our kids spend their day off from school yesterday? Spoiler: It wasn’t just lounging around in PJs!

They kicked things off with a cool MLK Jr. learning session, complete with a video and some awesome stories shared by our members. Then, they rolled up their sleeves to build solar buddies – portable solar lights to help kids without electricity study, read or even crush their friends at games after dark. Talk about spreading the light, literally!

Next up, science took a sweet turn with a Skittles experiment – far from your typical sugar rush. The activity began with reading Philippians 4:6-7, followed by writing down their worries on a plate. Skittles were placed over the words, and after reflecting on Isaiah 43:2, water was poured over the plate. As the Skittles dissolved, the written worries washed away – a powerful visual of how baptism renews us and of God’s promises in 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Isaiah 43:4. It was a vibrant and meaningful reminder that God’s grace washes away our fears, leaving behind something bold, bright and beautiful.

They rounded out the day with a heartfelt prayer, feeling refreshed, uplifted and maybe a tiny bit smarter. Who says a day off can’t be meaningful and fun?
