A Message from Our Council Vice President

By August 19, 2022News

Siblings in Christ,

On behalf of the Congregation Council, I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Amy Harrison to serve on Council. Amy was on the slate of nominees for Council at our January meeting and we have appointed her to serve the remainder of 2022 to fill a vacant position. Thank you, Amy, for your willingness to serve in this way.

I am thankful that we have been able to continue in-person worship this year. It feels like a blessing to see people gathered in the Sanctuary, kneeling at the communion rail, singing together, and sharing warm greetings in a way that we would have taken for granted before the pandemic, but now feels significant and precious.

I would like to highlight an important opportunity to participate in our on-site worship. There are approximately 19 volunteer positions at each worship service on Sunday morning, encompassing a variety of activities – but all supporting the community’s worship experience. There are greeters and ushers who give a smiling welcome and hand out bulletins; there are the bible bearer and crucifer who help us express our regard for the sacred symbols of our faith; there are the readers who bring us the Holy Scriptures; and there are the Altar Guild and communion assistants who facilitate our meeting with Jesus at the Communion Table. None of these tasks are particularly difficult, but each contributes to the worship experience in profound ways. If you’ve been to in-person worship on a Sunday, I suspect you’ve noticed at least one of the people ministering to the congregation in these roles. They are ordinary members of the congregation who take on a little extra responsibility once in a while so the rest of us can experience the blessing of worship.

On behalf of the Council, I say a heartfelt, “Thank You!”, to all who serve in these positions – you are doing a significant service for the Body of Christ. And if you haven’t served recently, I encourage you to consider it. In my experience, participating in this way brings a fresh perspective on the worship service and a certain satisfaction from contributing to the worship experience of others in our community.

In the name of Jesus,

Scott Seebohm
