Dear First Lutheran,
Salaam.
We are, FINALLY, about to begin building your House for Health in Tanzania.
Yours will be House #199 in this long running Houses for Health program.
The recipient of your home is the family of Okuli Ombeni Nkya. Ms Nkya is a 42 year old widow living with 12 year old daughter Glory. Ms Nkya is living with epilepsy. As the attached pictures show, their current house is barely a house.
Her family has given her a small plot on which we can build a House for Health.
To get started, we met with the family, clan elders, neighbors, village/church leaders and others who all signed a document stating that when we build a house on this site for the Nkyas, it will belong to them. I expect to sign a contract with our builder who uses all local labor, including that from the nearby neighborhood, and 100% Tanzanian materials.
This house will be a sign to this family and community that through God someone cares, that good things can happen and there is hope for the future. .
It usually takes about 6 weeks to complete a house. Weather and the upcoming holidays can affect that and we are heading into the “Big Rain” season.
I will be back to you then with pictures of their new house once it is completed.
Thank you for thinking of the very poor in Tanzania.
