As someone who has never flown before, I thought the whole plane experience was amazing – even going through security. After we boarded the plane we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for it to take off. I was completely amazed when we took off. I was pushed back in my seat by the sheer speed of the take off. As we were gaining altitude, I thought it looked amazing seeing all the clouds and seeing the separation of peoples land. I didn’t really do much while we were flying besides look out the window, in which it looked like there was a forest of clouds. I thought the landing into the Atlanta International Airport was probably the most fun since it seemed like a roller coaster with the plane tilting and everything. When we landed it was a little bumpy, but that’s to be expected since we were going so fast.
After we got off the plane we had to go down an escalator to get to a train that would take us to the luggage claim. Now, keep in mind, this is the first time I’ve ever been on one of these so I was completely amazed. After we got our luggage we walked for a bit until we found the sky train. This was even cooler since I got to see the city a bit and we were going kinda fast which is always fun.
Now comes the more boring part – waiting to get the rental cars.We waited for almost an hour if not more, but while we were waiting, we played games, slept (I was one of the people who slept) and talked. After we got the rental vans we noticed that one of the tires were low. They got us a different van, but it also had the same problem – not to mention there wasn’t any room in the back for our luggage. So we ended up waiting another hour or so until we got our third and final van. By this point, we were all tired. It was about a 50 minute drive from the rental car place to Amazing Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA, where we were staying. This is the church Pastor Justin, our former Associate Pastor, is now serving at.
After we got to the church, it was pretty fun. We had pizza and we talked with some of the youth there. After that we watched Pirates of the Caribbean and The Curse of the Black Pearl movies which were pretty good. We then cleaned up and went to sleep.
The next morning (Sunday) we all woke up and got ready for the morning. We packed up our stuff into the van and waited until worship started. We played games while waiting – Vroom, Buzz, Johnny Johnny and some other camp games. The service started around 12:20 pm and we listened to it in Spanish. Pastor Justin asked me to do a reading in Spanish, which was Ezekiel 2 1:5. It was pretty fun and everyone said O did a good job. At the end of the service we all introduced ourselves and we got to meet the congregation which was pretty small. We then hit the road for our four hour drive to Savannah. We got to Savannah and we saw palm trees and the Famous Spanish moss trees. We got to the church where we are staying and we did an orientation. After that we went outside to watch the fireworks.
That’s about it for our first two days of our accompaniment trip.
