Stewardship Message: The Call to Disciple

At First Lutheran, our call to accompany one another is guided by five powerful words. The third, discipling, gets to the heart of our mission. It’s simply guiding and nurturing one another as we follow the teachings of Jesus. It’s about fostering spiritual growth, not just in ourselves, but in those around us.

This journey is lived out through four core practices: learning, serving, worshiping and praying. These are living, breathing ways we put our faith into action, inviting others to walk beside us.

Learning: This is about curiosity and openness. You can join a Bible study, start a book discussion group, attend an Adult Forum session, share something from a sermon with a friend over coffee or read Bible stories to your children/grandchildren.

Serving: A faithful life is one of service. This can mean volunteering for a ministry or as a family, helping a neighbor, lending your skills to a community project or initiating a service project with your colleagues. Serving alongside someone else turns a simple task into shared joy—don’t hesitate to ask someone to join you.

Worshiping: Worship is where we gather as a community to respond to God’s goodness. Your presence is a powerful example to your children. Is there someone you haven’t seen in church recently? Call them. Invite them to join you. Remind them a community here cares.

Praying: Prayer connects us with God and each other. It sustains and comforts us. Modeling a life of prayer can be as simple as sharing your struggles, offering to pray for someone and then following through or praying as a family at meals or bedtime. When we pray with and for each other, we share a meaningful way to disciple.

As we continue our “What We Can Do” stewardship campaign, it’s a perfect time for reflection. This isn’t just about financial giving; it’s about committing our whole selves to God’s work. What is one step you can take to deepen your role as a disciple and help others do the same?
