With the whole church around the world and here at First Lutheran, we enter the season of Lent through the door of Ash Wednesday. More so than at any other time during the church year, this is that time when we hear, see, smell, feel, and reflect on the profound words, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
We are marked with the ashes of burnt palms on our forehead in the same place where the cross was traced at our baptism with the words, “You are sealed with the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.” Our identity as cross-marked disciples begins at our baptism.
Lent, then, is a time of remembering our humanness, limitations, and brokenness. We also remember Jesus´ passover from death to life and reflect on how our life in Christ is renewed.
May this season of Lent bless you with the opportunity to review your relationship with God, your neighbor, and yourself. We pray that you find yourself vulnerably leaning into the arms of God as you journey with Christ to the cross.
Journey with us through Lent on Wednesdays with worship services at noon and 6:30 pm. A light lunch will be served following the noon service and a light supper at 5:30 pm prior to the evening worship service.
