First Lutheran’s connections with Border Servant Corps (BSC) is easy as 1…2…3!
- In 2017, First Lutheran became an AMMPARO Congregation in the ELCA network, committed to Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities.
- Pastor Justin Eller and Kari Eller helped us grow in accompaniment after their time working alongside BSC, a long-time ministry of Peace Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, NM.
- Current BSC Director, Kari Lenander, grew up in Lincoln. Her father served as a pastor at Southwood Lutheran Church.
It is for these reasons and so many more that BSC will be one of our trusted partners at the Gifts of Hope Alternative Giving Market on December 2 and 3. From Director Kari Lenander to First Lutheran Gifts of Hope: “This is such an amazing connection! I feel the love and support, even from a distance. Blessings!” Take a moment to watch the video clip above to meet Kari Lenander and learn about BSC and the important work they do in offering migrant hospitality.
Gifts of Hope donations of $10 to $35 to BSC are ideal ways to honor teachers and friends or to make stocking stuffers meaningful. Donations will purchase winter jackets for toddlers and preschoolers, replace shoelaces removed at the border and welcome children with a small stuffed toy. Your gifts will offer hope to the 300 asylum seekers who are seeking daily temporary shelter 24/7.
