Join trumpeter Darryl White and his combo as they pay tribute to the music and style of Freddie Hubbard at the First Friday Jazz concert on November 1 at Lincoln’s First Lutheran Church. He’ll be performing with Jeff Jenkins on piano, Hans Sturm on bass and Greg Ahl on drums from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the church’s Activity Center at 1551 South 70th Street.
Darryl White has made a name for himself at jazz festivals, clubs, orchestras and studios with his trumpet performances. He seamlessly balances jazz with classical music and is a former member of the Aries Brass Quintet at the University of Denver. Audiences have loved his past First Friday Jazz concerts, often naming him one of their favorites. Check out the video from his 2019 FFJ concert!
Freddie Hubbard is often hailed by music critics as one of the most important and original jazz trumpeters of the last 40 years. Wynton Marsalis even cites Hubbard as a major influence on his own style. Expect White’s performance to feature classic jazz pieces along with the Freddie Hubbard tribute!
Best of all, there’s no admission charge and lunch will be available for purchase. This series of monthly concerts from October through May is First Lutheran’s gift to the Lincoln community, providing a venue for the city’s musical groups in East Lincoln. Contributions to support the series are always appreciated, as are donations of non-perishable food items for the Lincoln Lutheran Food Pantry.
P.S. Don’t miss the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra Septet at the annual First Friday Jazz Holiday Concert on December 6!
