As First Lutheran gets ready to support up to two Afghan refugee families, we first need to collect furnishings and other household items to set up their apartments. As you are willing and able, we would welcome your donations by November 7, as well as your time to help us collect, organize, deliver and set up the apartments to welcome the new families. For a full list of items that we need to collect, please click here. Your donations can be gently used EXCEPT for toiletries, cleaning items, pillows, towel sets and mattresses. Here are all the ways you can help:
- Pick up a tag at the “Welcoming Refugees” table in the Gathering Center for a wide variety of kitchen items, cleaning products, toiletries and miscellaneous items. Bring your donations to church by November 7 and place them in the donation boxes near the “Welcoming Refugees” table.
- Sign up online by November 7 or at the “Welcoming Refugees” table to donate furniture, dish and glass sets, bedding, new towel sets, televisions and vacuums.
- Make a monetary donation to help the refugee families get settled into their apartments, such as buying new mattresses and getting acclimated to life in Lincoln, Nebraska. Please make your check to “First Lutheran Church” and put “Afghan refugees” on the memo line.
Keep an eye out for new donation opportunities as we learn more about the families who will be arriving and their needs, such as for clothing, diapers, cribs, bicycles and food items. Stay tuned!
