Omaha-based jazz singer Camille Metoyer Moten and her ensemble will kick off the 2024-25 First Friday Jazz concert series on October 4 at First Lutheran Church. The concert is scheduled from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the church Activity Center, located at 1551 South 70th Street in Lincoln.
A beloved figure in the Omaha jazz scene, Camille has captivated audiences throughout the twelve-year history of First Lutheran’s popular concert series. For this concert, Camille and her group will present a delightful selection of love songs and classic jazz compositions. Accompanying Camille are talented musicians Dave Murphy on keyboard, Mark Haar on bass and Doug Montera on drums. She holds a distinguished place in Nebraska’s jazz landscape, having received numerous nominations as Omaha’s top jazz vocalist. Additionally, she has been inducted into both the Omaha Black Musicians Hall of Fame and the Nebraska Musicians Hall of Fame.
Admission is free, though contributions are appreciated, and lunch will be available for purchase.
The First Friday Jazz concert series is renowned as one of Lincoln’s premier jazz events, frequently drawing a full house. This year’s monthly concerts will showcase a diverse array of performers, including vocalists and instrumentalists. Notably, a Nebraska Jazz Orchestra Septet will present a special holiday concert on December 6, while the Dueling Divas, Jackie Allen and Susie Thorne, will return for the February 7 concert. Additional performances include Darryl White on November 1, Peter Bouffard on January 3, Andy Hall on March 7, The Lightning Bugs on April 4 and Ed Love on May 2.
