Through a program sponsored by the Nebraska Synod, First Lutheran has been matched with a congregation recovering from flood damage. We are now a Prayer Partner with Faith United Parish of Niobrara. Faith United Parish is a two-point parish uniting an ELCA congregation with a Presbyterian congregation. One month Faith United uses a Presbyterian form for worship. They use Lutheran forms for worship the next, etc. In August, they are “Presbyterians.”
The Nebraska Synod encourages us to support them in the following ways:
- Pray for the impacted congregation/community in your worship services.
- Write notes of encouragement, ask children to draw encouraging pictures, etc. to send to the impacted congregation/community.
- Your pastor is asked to contact the pastor of the impacted congregation by phone regularly to offer compassionate listening and support.
- If possible, please offer a weekend of respite for the impacted congregation’s pastor by sending a minister from your congregation to lead worship one or more weekends in the impacted congregation. If you are unable to do this, you are invited to send two or more members to worship with the impacted congregation one or more weekends.
On Sunday, August 11, Pastor Dan will be driving to Niobrara to preach and lead their joint service at 9:00 am. He will leave the First Lutheran parking lot at 5:00 am. If you wish to “caravan” along and worship at Faith United, please be in the parking lot at 4:45 am.
