Group Sax, one of the most unique musical ensembles in the Midwest, will be the featured combo for the February 2 First Friday Jazz concert at Lincoln’s First Lutheran Church. The group has performed together for over twenty five years at multi-state jazz performances, including a headliner performance at Lincoln’s Jazz in June concert series.
The Group Sax members include Paul Harr on soprano and alto saxophones, Mark Benson on alto and tenor saxophones and clarinet, Ed Love on tenor and C-melody saxophones, and Scott Vicroy on baritone and bass saxophones, as well as clarinet. Each member has a strong background in jazz performance, leading their own groups, teaching at the high school and college levels and playing in the pit orchestras for touring Broadway shows. The concert will include some traditional jazz numbers, as well as some original compositions.

Their performance is scheduled between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM at First Lutheran’s Activity Center at 1551 South 70th Street. There is no admission charge, but donations help support the concert series allowing organizers to continue offering some of the best jazz performances in the area. Lunch will be available for purchase and audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable items for the Lincoln Lutheran Food Pantry.
