Help Us Meet the 500 Can Challenge for the Food Pantry

The Lutheran Food Pantry is still not able to purchase food at a reduced rate from the Food Bank and isn’t sure when they will be able to do so again. As a result, they must rely solely on donations. Weekly, First Lutheran volunteers pack boxes for families at the City Mission and other volunteers pack boxes for families at Matt Talbot. We go through a lot of food each week! The need is great!

The Nebraska Thrivent Chapter is holding a “500 Can Challenge” during November. If First Lutheran can collect 500 food items for the Lincoln Food Pantry and photograph them arranged as a pyramid, Thrivent will give an additional $500 to the Pantry. Last year, we collected 672 items for the 2019 Thrivent Challenge! (see photo at right) Let’s accept this year’s challenge and fill the Food Pantry shelves by donating food items! You can drop them off at the Advent Drive Through this Sunday, November 22, from Noon-1:00 pm, or drop them off at church during regular office hours beforehand. You will find a table in the Gathering space just inside the doors where you can place your donations.
