As we settle back after the holidays, we wanted to share an update and our gratitude. Before winter break, our children enjoyed singing carols and reading books generously gifted by our volunteer readers. BraveBe also supported several families with Christmas gifts, bringing joy during a busy and often stressful season. Additionally, a First Lutheran member donated beautiful, warm knitted hats, keeping our littles cozy this winter—thank you for this thoughtful act. We’re also so grateful for donations made during Gifts of Hope to continue supporting our families.
However, many of our families and teachers are going through a difficult time. Recent immigration changes have caused significant worry, as some families here legally as refugees no longer have protected status and visa processing has been paused. Additionally, SNAP benefits are no longer available to immigrants who are not U.S. citizens, leading to food shortages for several households in our community.
If you’d like to support our free pantry, some of the most-needed items include: Leche Nido powdered milk (red and blue labels in the Hispanic section), white rice, dry and canned black and pinto beans, canned refried beans, fruit cups, corn tortillas, pasta and pasta sauce, baby wipes, baby snacks (puffs), and cereal—especially Cheerios and Life. Grocery or gas gift cards are also deeply appreciated. If you prefer, checks can be made out to Las Abejitas for us to purchase food on behalf of families.
We also ask you to consider contacting lawmakers to encourage the passing of LB 304, ensuring working families with child care subsidies can continue accessing high-quality care at Las Abejitas. You can find more information online.
Thank you, as always, for walking alongside our families with compassion and generosity. Your support makes a meaningful difference!
