Kicks for Kids Provides 233 Pairs of Shoes to Kids in Need

by Donice Kaspar
With schools closed, our Kicks for Kids year ended abruptly. But the good news is this past school year First Lutheran provided 233 pairs of new shoes, as well as 1165 pairs of socks to children in need in our community! That was 212 pairs of shoes to eight elementary schools, and 21 pairs to four middle schools. As a social worker from Lefler put it, “Many of our kiddos walk to school and literally wear shoes out. Their toes are sticking out.”

One of my favorite parts of this mission is that each child receives a new pair of athletic shoes and five pairs of socks picked out just for them. I always say we buy shoes that we would want our children/grandchildren to wear. We pray for each pair of shoes and the child that receives them.
Thank you, our First Lutheran family, for partnering with kids in need to help them run and play in comfort and safety.
