A blustery Nebraska snowstorm highlights God’s welcome in our neighborhood. As my husband uses a loader to pile snow higher and higher so the neighborhood children have a great place to slide and then faithfully clears our elderly neighbor’s driveway, I experience God’s welcome. I watch as another neighbor snowplows everyone’s sidewalks in the neighborhood.
I smile as 9-year-old Mia delivers cookies she baked and a note with John 3:16 carefully printed and covered with heart stickers. When a pan of homemade lasagna is delivered to the new neighbors who just moved in, I experience God’s welcome.
As neighbors, we care for each other. We are accepted and with each act of kindness our neighborhood embraces each other and helps us feel God’s welcome in our neighborhood. To paraphrase Mr. Rogers, “I’m so glad to be your neighbor!”
