One of First Lutheran’s outreach ministries is delivering hot noon meals to needy neighbors in our Lincoln community as part of Tabitha’s Meals on Wheels Program. Now that we are in the midst of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our dedicated drivers fall into the high-risk category and have been advised to stay home and avoid community contact whenever possible.
If you do not fall into a high-risk category and find that you now have more time on your hands than you planned (e.g., teachers, college students, high school students with a driver’s license, temporarily underemployed), we ask that you consider delivering the scheduled routes for one of our First Lutheran drivers. The need for these meals has certainly not diminished, but we need to keep our at-risk members safe.
Meals are delivered every day of the week, with pick-up from 10:30 –11:00 a.m. at Tabitha (48th and Randolph). Routes typically last 30-60 minutes Drivers will be asked to complete a short self-screening questionnaire to confirm you have no signs of respiratory infection or have recently traveled to an area, or been exposed to anyone, with known COVID-19 infection. You will be asked to follow hand-washing protocol before and after each visit, and are not to enter any buildings or residences. As of April 2, Tabitha has had NO cases of COVID-19. If you are able to help on a short-term basis, please contact Sandy Latshaw at sjlatshaw@outlook.com, or 402-423-7717, to let her know your general availability (days of the week).
