Our middle schoolers and adults at Camp Wapogasset’s Wilderness Canoe Base in WI have had an amazing week! Here is a summary of the past few days of their adventure…
There have been lots of challenges this week, but we all did it together. We have not showered since we arrived Sunday and have used outhouses all week. There is plenty of reading material, however, posted on the walls to learn about the plants and animals of this area. We always came out with an interesting fact to share. We’ve canoed to beautiful places, trimmed and cleaned up trails, painted, swam in the lake, had canoe races, hiked and enjoyed a sauna on our last night to steam some of the stink off us before returning home. Each morning began with a silent walk to the Chapel and the sharing of a Bible verse in lectio divina style to reflect on. At dinner we heard more reflection on the verse from the person who shared the verse at First Word. Our guides were fantastic and helped us pick berries and edible plants. We made teas and enjoyed munching on the fresh berries. We saw otters, beavers, grouse, loons, muskrats, squirrel and lots of mosquitos. We would compare the number of bites each of us had at the end of each day. The best part of the trip was watching each other try things they we have never done before and encourage and support each other through it. Thanks goes out to Mike Paulsen for all his help in some of our most trying situations. We have shared many highs, lows, and God moments through the week. We look forward to a safe trip home.
