It was a full day of service for everyone! Here’s a recap of what we did and everyone’s rose (high), thorn (low) and bud (looking forward to) for the day…
We are divided into three work crews…
Kristi, Kaitlyn and Anna painted and weeded at Miss Barbara’s house. Kaitlyn’s rose was getting to know the other youth from OH in her work crew. Her thorn was getting dehydrated and needing to take a break to cool off and she is looking forward to building more relationships with her group and the people she serves. Anna’s rose was how grateful Miss Barbara was that the group came to help her. Her thorn is she has some neck pain, and her bud is seeing who else we impact this week and what relationships we build. Kristi’s rose was talking with Miss Barbara and hearing stories of her family including her many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her thorn is her back and hips are hurting.
Group two is Mike, Mark, Stephen and Maxx. They went to Kling Center, a retirement center for men. They played bingo, ping pong and pool, as well as did some weed whacking. Maxx’s rose was sharing life stories with one of the gentlemen. His thorn was not being able to finish the weed whacking because the weed whacker burnt up. His bud is doing more work in other places. Stephen’s rose was the weed eater burning up because it was funny. His thorn was not getting to finish a game of pool, and his bud is looking forward to sleep. Mike’s rose was watching Maxx and Stephen interact with the older men. His thorn was the weed whacker burning up and his bud is being excited for what we do next and living with the uncertainty of not knowing what it is for certain. Mark’s rose was Maxx working the weed whacker so hard it burnt up. He didn’t really have any thorns, and his bud is excited for more things to do.
The third work crew is Christian, Cole and Sharon. They served at Yew Botanical Gardens by mulching and weeding in the arboretum area. They then got a tour of the gardens. Cole’s rose was hearing people share stories, His thorn was tired feet, and his bud is getting to sleep tonight. Christian’s rose is seeing the fairy garden forest and helping the trees. His thorn was miscommunication at our shower site and having to wait longer than he needed to. His bud is being excited for more service. Sharon’s rose was seeing Christian and Cole interact with the highschoolers from OH that they worked with. Her thorn was itchy scratchy eyes from allergies, and her bud is excitement for more opportunities.
In addition to our service day, we enjoyed an evening walk on the Big Four Bridge at the Riverfront. We were able to walk to Indiana by crossing the bridge, Then we enjoyed ice cream and Boba Tea before heading back for closing worship and congregational time where we read our prayer cards. Thanks to our prayer partners and the congregation for keeping us in prayer.
