Real belonging means knowing you’re truly valued and accepted, no matter who you are or what life throws your way. That’s exactly what “welcoming” means to us at First Lutheran Church. It’s more than just opening a door or saying a quick hello. It’s about actively creating a space where everyone feels like they truly belong in our faith community. Think of it as building a home – not with bricks and mortar, but with open hearts, open arms, and a foundation of God’s unconditional love. It’s that reassuring feeling that no matter your story or where you’ve come from, you are valued here.
Our Welcoming Statement is really important to everything we do. It reminds us that everyone is a special creation of God, deserving of love and acceptance, no matter who they are. We welcome everyone, just like God welcomes everyone – no exceptions! This idea shapes our church community and encourages us to come together in Christ’s love.
Bryce Anderson wrapped up our final stewardship talk on Sunday with a challenge to think bigger. Being welcoming isn’t just about how we feel within our own community—it’s about taking action and reaching out. Over the past three years, First has shared $275,000 in benevolence, spreading God’s unconditional love to people and organizations who need to know they’re not alone. Just this past year, 11 organizations felt the warmth and welcome of this community firsthand.
But welcoming can also start with simple stuff—like inviting someone for coffee, listening without judging, including a new face at school or work, or just sharing a meal. Every kind gesture helps someone feel at home, whether it’s at church or just out in the world. That’s how we can all truly live out what “welcoming” means every single day.
