Sunday’s Noisy Offering will benefit the Center for People in Need (CPIN) in Lincoln and their annual Toyland Holiday Gift Card Program for Teenagers.
Lincoln’s Center for People in Need (CFPIN) is at the top of its class as a non-profit that meets the needs of people who are low-income and offers paths toward financial independence. More than 8,000 people, including more than 3,800 children, receive assistance at CPIN each month. Teenagers experiencing poverty often grow up faster than their peers, serve as a caregiver for younger siblings while their parents work and feel they shouldn’t ask for things their classmates take for granted, like music or dance lessons, playing sports or holiday gifts. Funding gift cards for teenagers through the Toyland program encourages and supports these youth and their families.
After CFPIN’s Dr. Belinda Acosta spoke at a Wednesday evening First Lutheran Confirmation class, not only did our middle schoolers accept her Teen Holiday Gift Card Challenge, but they followed up with a November field trip to CFPIN to find out more. Then they pulled together an educational display that will debut at the Gifts of Hope Alternative Giving Market this Sunday at First Lutheran from 8:30 am-12:30 pm. There’s no doubt they did their homework!
Let’s make a joyful noise with our offering during worship on Sunday in support of our community’s teenagers! Also, stop by the students’ Gifts of Hope Teen Gift Card display at the Gifts of Hope (GOH) market where First Lutheran’s youth will also accept your donations for gift cards and answer any questions you have!
