Having a joy-filled Advent season is something we all hope for, but there are people who find this season difficult. Or, at least, they find it difficult to muster up the joy and wonder and hope they think they’re supposed to be feeling. They may have lost a loved one recently through death. But they may also have experienced another kind of loss – the loss of a job, of a marriage, of health, of financial security. There are all kinds of grief that can affect us during the holidays. Maybe you know someone who is experiencing that loss and grief this year. Maybe you are one of those people yourself.
This is why we will hold a Longest Night Evening Prayer service on Wednesday, December 21, at 6:30 pm (no noon service) with a soup supper at 5:30 pm. On this darkest day of the year, we will give room to share grief, sadness and loneliness while providing a place of Christ’s light and hope. Know that we have in mind not only those who already worship with us, but anyone in our community who is grieving or struggling that make “Happy Holidays” feel alienating. Invite them to join us on the Longest Night.
