Through a Lens of Faith: McCook Detention Facility

By August 27, 2025News

Each Sunday members and friends of First Lutheran gather during the learning hour to discuss how faith informs their responses to the week’s news.

This past Sunday deep concerns were expressed about the planned Homeland Security/ICE detention center in McCook, Nebraska.

Recent statements from local faith leaders (ELCA, Nebraska Methodist Conference, Lincoln Catholic Diocese) may be helpful resources for your own Faithful Conversations:

Rev. Dr. David Wilson, Resident Bishop of the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church

Bishop Conley of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln

Rev. Scott Johnson, Bishop of the Nebraska Synod – ELCA

First Lutheran’s Faithful Conversations Group welcomes all during the learning hour every Sunday. For additional resources or opportunities for action, contact Carol Olson or Barb Johnson Frank.
