Our last day of service went quickly. Kristi, Anna and Kaitlyn went to Yew Dell Botanical Garden and picked up weeding where our other group stopped yesterday. Then they packed 3,500 meals for children at Love the Hungry. Mike, Mark, Stephen and Maxx built picnic tables, set up tents at the farmers market and staffed a table with t-shirts for the Community Gardens we worked at earlier in the week. Sharon, Cole and Christian picked up trash and weeded at Catholic Charities and then explored the farmers market. Both groups then helped take down tents and tables at the market.
The entire group enjoyed a cookout at the Salvation Army with community members before we had our final worship time and foot washing. There were some tears as we prayed with each other and said goodbyes to our new friends.
Here are some final reflections from Christian and Cole before we journey home tomorrow:
Christian: “The week was great! I loved serving people and feeling like I made a difference in the community. I didn’t expect to connect with the people from Ohio , but I was wrong. I gained so many new friends that I will miss and I will cherish our memories. I also loved worship at the end of the day and feeling one with God.”
Cole: “The time when I felt the most impact on other people and my self was when we went to Love the Hungry because we served 3,000-3,500 kids a meal all over the world.”
