Our high school team who are in Denver this week on a Synod-wide mission trip had a great first day of service yesterday. Cora Hoeft offers this summary of Tuesday’s highlights…
Today was our first day of actually serving in the Denver, Colorado community. We had an all day assignment at the Denver Rescue Mission – sorting food and clothing for the homeless and those in need. Of course, we shared a laugh here and there while talking to some of the staff and learning more about them, as well as ther job at the mission. At the Mission Center it was super eye opening. One of the head workers gave us a tour showing us how the non-profit works and how it helps the community. They were an amazing organization! It was super cool to see a program so devoted to helping people get back on their feet or start a new chapter in their life. During lunch we went adventuring and found a local coffee shop down the street and ate lunch there. While sharing a coffee we looked at all the cool stuff inside. They had plants and recycled objects filled with plants inside them. They also had DELICIOUS coffee. Later in the day we went to a breathtaking view spot in the hills. We took some pictures while also taking in the vastness of everything we were looking at. We were wowed by evey look off the hill no matter if it was the mountains, trees, valley or city. It was a great first day!
