This summer our high school youth will be traveling to Flathead Bible Camp in Kalispell, MT, where they will do a custom adventure trip. The adventure will begin on Sunday, July 23, with white water rafting, before joining the traditional campers for a meal and opening worship. Then, on Monday morning, they will pack their backpacks and head out into the wilderness and hike 3 – 6 miles to a tent campsite. They will spend two nights and three days hiking, kayaking, worshiping and learning about the mountains of Montana. They will hike back to the main camp on Thursday where they will explore Flathead Lake by kayaks or canoes. They will finish Thursday evening with the traditional campers at a picnic and closing worship. On Friday, they will spend half the day doing a service project arranged by the camp before packing and heading to the airport that evening for their flight home. We have 23 youth and adults excited about this accompaniment adventure!
The middle schoolers and a few high schoolers (15 in total) will also head to Chicago on Sunday, July 10, and spend four days serving with Serve Boldly in the city before returning home on Friday, July 15. Chicago is an amazingly diverse city made up of dozens and dozens of unique neighborhoods full of culture and opportunity. Serve Boldly is committed to serve this great city in ways that support and build up our partners in their unique contexts. Our youth may find themselves serving in a meal site or at a food pantry or be a part of a team that does outreach to men and women who are homeless. They may join in the fun and energy of ministry with kids in a summer program. And, of course, they will hit a few of the iconic city sights from the Bean and Lincoln Park Zoo to Buckingham Fountain. It will be a week our youth will not soon forget!
If anyone has a minivan or SUV (with seating for 7 – 8 and room for luggage) that is willing to loan for the trip to Chicago, July 10 – 15, please contact Sharon Hardel. The church van will be used, but room for seven more participants is needed and attempts are being made to avoid the additional cost of renting a vehicle. Thank you!
