We are planning a meaningful Advent celebration this year. We are taking up the theme of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, Until All Are Fed.
On Advent Wednesdays – December 5, 12 and 19 – we will meet in the Chapel at noon and at 6:30 pm for Holden Evening Prayer. Members of our congregation will reflect on the “feeding” ministries they are engaged in. A light lunch follows the noon meal in the Commons. A light supper at 5:30 pm precedes the Advent worship at 6:30 pm.
On Sundays during Advent we will focus on the hope-filled visions offered by the prophets in the first lessons. On Sunday, December 16, at 9:30 am, we will celebrate the season with an event in the Activity Center for the entire congregation.
An Advent Calendar from the ELCA World Hunger Appeal will provide a daily reminder of the reason for the season with hymns, prayers, Bible verses and information about how ELCA Good Gifts make a difference in the world. Pick up a calendar from the Commons and enjoy it as a family! (FYI…A photo of our children at First Lutheran exploring the Advent Calendar was captured by First Lutheran Communications Coordinator, Kathleen Simley, and was featured in a letter that will go to rostered ELCA leaders across the world promoting the Advent Calendar!)
Advent devotionals will guide individuals and families in an exploration of the holiness of food. You can receive these devotionals through a weekly email or you can pick up a printed copy from the Welcome Center or the Commons area. Take an extra copy to share with a friend.
Prepare for a meaningful Advent season. Be with us.
