Wild Women, Fierce Competition and the Mystery of the Spandex

By February 24, 2026Events, News

If you were anywhere near 6301 S. 58th Street last night, you probably heard the laughter. You might have felt the energy shift, too.

The Wild Women of First and their friends took over the night to kick off (just a bit early!) International Women’s Day (March 8) and Women’s History Month (March), and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. It was an evening that started with connection and ended with trivia battles, proving once again that when women gather, magic happens.

We started the night by honoring our roots—quite literally. We celebrated the oldest Wild Woman in the room, a vibrant soul about to turn 80-something this weekend—a reminder that “wild” has no age limit; it just gets better (and wiser) with time.

But the real heart of the evening was found in the stories. We shared tales about the women who shaped us—not the ones from history books, but the real women in our lives: mothers, grandmothers, mentors. The ones who were brave when they were scared, kind when the world was hard and risk-takers before it was cool. We talked about strength, compassion, faith, kindness and the hard work that paved the way for us to be sitting in that room together.

And then? Then we got competitive.

The mood shifted gears as we launched into Famous Women Jeopardy. Categories ranged from “Girl Power” to “Women of Nebraska” (one of First Lutheran’s own women even made this category!), “Female Artists,” and the popular “TV Trailblazers.”

The competition was fierce. The women knew their history—sometimes even surprising themselves! We learned about the giants whose shoulders we stand upon—trailblazers who fought for rights and made a difference. But in the heat of battle, we also learned some unexpected facts about each other. Specifically, we now know exactly who in the room doesn’t wear Spandex! We won’t name names, but your secret is safe with us (mostly). By the final round, it was clear every team would fiercely vie to have Trish on their side in any rematch—her trivia prowess now the stuff of Wild Women legend.

Despite the intensity, the sportsmanship was top-tier. The winning team didn’t just walk away with bragging rights—they claimed trophies recycled from 4-H competitions, a “wild” candlestick and the most coveted prize of the night: the traveling Urn! Yes, an Urn. Don’t ask questions, just respect the prestige. In fact, one of the trophies was proudly displayed on a winner’s mantel by the end of the night.

Amidst the wild chaos, we also took a moment to celebrate a major milestone: the first-year anniversary of Wild Women! It’s been a year of laughter, fun and building a community of women who matter and care about each other.

We toasted the occasion over dinner with some Signature Wild Women mocktails. Whether you sipped on “The Sister Special,” “The Brave One” or the classic “Wild Women Original,” the positive vibes were clearly felt.

As the night wound down, no one left empty-handed. Every woman took home her own copy of the Finding Balance in the Wild guide. It’s packed with 25 practical ways to care for yourself, because while being a wild woman is fun, it’s also hard work and you deserve a break.

If you missed out on the laughter, the stories, the sense of community or the mocktails, don’t worry. The wildness continues. Mark your calendars right now for our next gatherings on June 22 and October 26, 2026.

Until then, stay brave, stay kind and be that woman like the one who has impacted your life! And maybe keep practicing your trivia. The Urn is up for grabs next time!
