We’re Lutherans! Assured of God’s boundless love and grace, we come to worship and into our community of faith just as we are.
So, who are we right now?
Last month, members of First Lutheran were invited to submit a word or two describing the past two years of their lives. This cross represents 88 responses. Words mentioned often were: challenging, frustrating, patience, hopeful, anger, faith, family, loneliness, anxious, confusing, fear, isolation and longing.
- What does knowing this mean as we greet one another and engage in conversations in the weeks ahead?
- What kinds of listening skills will allow others to be exactly who they are?
- How do we support one another, anchored in the same hope that has sustained God’s people across the centuries?
These words matter. The stories behind the words matter.
Here’s a way your story can be heard in any way you wish to share it:
During Lent, through First Lutheran’s My Story. Our Story. God’s Story. outreach, every household will receive a small blank canvas to use in representing the joys, challenges, losses and growth of the past two years. Individual canvases, returned to church by April 1, will be displayed together, creating a large mosaic that tells our stories. Simple descriptions offered by the creator/s of each canvas will be viewable by using a smartphone and QR code or by reading a printed guide. Names are encouraged, but not required.
So, come as you are! Welcome others where they are! God just might be nudging you to listen to words from someone’s heart.
