Afghan Refugee Families Settle Into Life in Lincoln

By February 1, 2022Care Ministry, News, Serve
The three Afghan refugee families First Lutheran co-sponsors, along with Lutheran Family Services, have settled into their fully-furnished apartments. All family members are continuously learning about life in their new community. The children are enrolled in school. The heads of household are focusing their efforts on learning English and finding jobs. Both of these are works in progress. Hospitality is central in their culture and they enjoy spending time with extended family who have resettled in Lincoln. At the same time, they are anxious about the dire circumstances of family who remain in Afghanistan. Our families are grateful for safety in the United States and for the care and support offered by First Lutheran Church.

The photos below feature one of the families finishing a delicious Afghan meal with a tablecloth spread on the floor in traditional style and girls guarding fabrics selected by their parents on a local shopping trip.
