What’s the Story with My Story. Our Story. God’s Story.

By March 10, 2022March 25th, 2022Care Ministry, News

My Story. Our Story. God’s Story. is pretty exciting, actually! My Story. Our Story. God’s Story. is a member-initiated outreach designed to provide a space for sharing the ups and downs, challenges, losses, celebrations and growth of the past two years. It’s a way to build or renew connections.

What is this all about?

Thanks to a Thrivent Action Team Grant, blank canvases of varying sizes will be available to every household for use as a story telling tool. Through words, images, colors, photos or textures a part of your pandemic era story will come to life. If you love to create, choose any art medium you would like.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I am NOT an artist!

Don’t make this so hard! Your canvas story can be a handwritten list of dates, series of words, one big word, a Bible verse or a line from a hymn that anchored you. Look at the examples below – all created by members who also said they weren’t artists!

Nah. Not me! I don’t have a story.

Well, you absolutely do have a story. Maybe it’s “I don’t want to think about this anymore. I just want to move on!” or “People changed a lot during the time we were away from school.” or “I finally made time for daily Bible reading and reflection.” or “Two of my friends died from Covid.” or “I cried at Christmas.” Every story matters.

Okay, you talked me into it. What happens when the canvas is done?

Your canvas is numbered. When you have finished it, explain a bit of your story using the online form at https://flclincoln.org/submit-story. By April 1, bring or send your canvas to church. It will be added to a growing mosaic that tells our faith community’s stories. Stories represented by our canvases will be accessible using a smartphone and a QR code. Printed copies will be available, too.

Your story matters in our congregation. Pick up your canvas soon at midweek Lenten services, after Saturday and Sunday services, in the church office or by emailing mystory.ourstory.godsstory@gmail.com.

(My Story. Our Story. God’s Story. grew from a Council member’s response to a Care Call report that showed members were interested in growing a more-closely connected faith community. It’s a match for First Lutheran’s Welcome Statement, too.)
